Upon discovery around 4:23 p.m. According to the University of California Police Department, Berkeley report, local time, the Berkeley Fire Department immediately began life-saving measures on the trooper. Despite his efforts, the trooper was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Although the exact cause of the trooper’s death is unknown, campus police have ruled out any foul play. The trooper’s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, suspected a drug overdose, telling SFGate, “He ingested a drug, and we don’t know what was in it.”
Esther described Tropper as a “lover” and a “math genius”, expressing deep sadness at his untimely passing. She shared memories of his vibrant personality and promising academic pursuits at UC Berkeley.
