Sweetpea’s Health Journey and Health Problems
Jennifer Siegel, director of Smyrna Animal Rescue Bosley’s Place, revealed the findings of Sweetpea’s necropsy report, which revealed the little pup died of kidney disease. Since birth, Sweetpea struggled with a series of health challenges, including hydrocephalus – a neurological disorder characterized by abnormal fluid accumulation within the brain – as well as a congenital heart defect.
Sweetpea’s health struggles were evident from the beginning. Suffering from hydrocephalus, a condition affecting brain function, and a heart defect, Sweetpea fought bravely against many odds. Despite efforts to wean her off the bottle, she experienced a “blue baby episode”, indicating significant distress.
Remarkable Journey to the Puppy Bowl
Despite her health challenges, Sweetpea beat the odds to participate in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XX. Weighing only 1.7 pounds at the time of the event, Sweetpea, a Cavapoo—a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle mix—went on a journey that touched the hearts of many.
